A classroom signal, not another classroom platform

Classroom Noise Meter exists for teachers who need one clear visual expectation without installing an app, creating student accounts or learning a larger classroom-management suite.

Why the meter is calm

Reactive animations can accidentally turn volume into a challenge: students make more noise to create more movement. The default younger-learner view uses a simple care story—help three cozy kittens keep dreaming—while keeping their bodies fixed and changing the number of awake kittens. A neutral signal remains available for older or low-stimulation groups.

Why the room can be matched

A Chromebook, iPad and classroom laptop do not hear a room in exactly the same way. Fans, projectors and automatic microphone processing also change the signal. After starting the monitor, a teacher chooses how many kittens should be awake at the current sound, then changes the sound and answers the same question once more. The tool maps those two references to the same four relative bands without asking the teacher to interpret a decibel or sensitivity number.

How it is built

The tool uses standard browser microphone and Web Audio capabilities. It reads moment-to-moment frequency energy, performs the calculation on the device and updates the visual signal. It does not include a speech recognizer or audio recorder. The source is intentionally small enough to run as a static Cloudflare site.

Editorial and funding policy

The tool is independently operated. If advertising is added after traffic and network approval, ads will support hosting and continued maintenance but will not be placed inside the primary meter controls or change the classroom guidance. No ratings, teacher endorsements or usage totals are claimed without evidence.
